Founded in 1804, Ohio University is the oldest university in Ohio, and the ninth oldest public university in the United States. Ohio University’s main campus is currently located in Athens, Ohio, with five regional campuses spread across the state. With 210 buildings situated on a 1,800-acre site, Ohio University’s main campus is currently the largest employer in Athens County Ohio.

In 1808 the school initially enrolled just three students; its first bachelor’s degrees were awarded in 1815. A great deal of change has occurred since the first graduation almost 200 years ago; Ohio University has grown exponentially, becoming a highly respected and established research and higher learning institution.

Today, Ohio University is one of the largest universities in Ohio, with a total enrollment of over 19,000 on the Athens campus, and more than 28,000 students on all campuses. The school features more than 250 undergraduate programs spread through 12 distinct colleges. There are currently close to 3,500 students in graduate programs at Ohio University.
