About the Engineering Industry
The engineering services industry is an in-demand industry that is expected to grow 21% from 2012 to 2022. Employment for engineering managers is also expected to grow 7% from 2012 to 2022. Part of this growth can be attributed to the need to update and expand aging infrastructure. California takes the lead for having the highest concentration of workers in this field, followed by Michigan, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia, respectively.
Within the industry, the most lucrative fields include spectator sports, oil and gas extraction, lessors of nonfinancial intangible assets, scientific research and development services, and professional and commercial equipment & supplies merchant wholesalers.
